A HUGE charity event has raised over £1,000 in support of a youngster from West Buckland who has been diagnosed with cancer.

Nine-year-old Sonny Way from West Buckland was recently diagnosed with stage 4 Hodgkin lymphoma, a type of blood cancer.

Sonny has just completed his last round of chemotherapy, and is due to start radiotherapy treatment in June.

Pulse Gym, based in West Buckland, decided to throw a huge charity event in honour of Sonny.

They ran two back-to-back classes of team games consisting of rowing and skiing machines, exercise bikes, box jumping, press-ups and just flat-out exercising until a buzzer sounded.

There was a huge raffle, tea, coffee, cakes and a DJ, as well as a pizza van put on by Al’s Pizza.

Sonny’s mother Samantha described the day as “hard work”, but added: “The atmosphere was amazing.”

All the proceeds went to Cancer Research, and they raised over £1,000.
