CENTENARIAN Frank Craggs has been toasting 100 years of life at his home in Wellington.
Mr Craggs reached the landmark last Wednesday (May 31) and celebrated at The Court Residential Home in Wellington where he has lived since 2009.
He was born at Clayhidon and moved to Jurston Farm, Wellington, when he was two with his parents and brother, Arthur.
He went to St John’s School until he was seven and then spent four years at Corams Lane School before moving onto Courtland Road School where he remembers having gardening and carpentry lessons one afternoon a week.
Mr Craggs left school at 14 to work on the family farm – a mixed farm with dairy cows and arable land. Horses were used for ploughing until the family bought their first tractor in 1951.
He married Mabel in 1942 and they were married for nearly 60 years. They used to enjoy going to ballroom dances in Nynehead and West Buckland village halls.
Mr Craggs moved to Pyles Thorne in 1982 and then 27 years later to The Court Residential Home which, with Popham House Nursing Home, is known as Popham Court.
