YOUNGSTERS at Rockwell Green Primary School in Wellington enjoyed a first-hand account of how a construction scheme works when developers building new homes in the area visited the school.

Representatives from construction company WRW Construction spent time with the children to give them an insight into the world of building.

The company is working on Taunton Deane Borough Council’s £3.6 million scheme to build 26 new homes in Rockwell Green on the site of the old Weavers Arms pub. The project will provide a mix of one-, two-, three- and four-bedroom properties including flats, houses and bungalows with some wheelchair-suitable properties.

Kelly Edwards, WRW’s head of corporate social responsibility, told the pupils about the importance of health and safety on a building site, what happens during construction and how houses are built.

The assembly was followed by a group of children learning about time capsules, an idea Kelly has suggested the children can tackle before her next visit. The pupils had lots of ideas and were enthusiastic.

The children have also all been asked to enter a poster-making competition, with prizes for the winners. All the posters will be displayed on the fencing around the development site.
