PARISHIONERS in Hemyock have recognised global seafarers by attending a special Sea Sunday service in July.
Work of the Mission to Seafarers is celebrated by churches and St Mary’s Church, in Hemyock, began its Sea Sunday service of Holy Communion with the hymn ‘Eternal Father strong to Save’ and also included ‘Will your Anchor Hold’.
There was a small display remembering the grandfather of a congregation member, as well as a cousin, with both men spending many years at sea.
There are around 1.5 million seafarers across the world whose lives can be lonely, dangerous, and uncertain, the congregation was told.
The Rev John Stone, who retired to Hemyock some years ago, took the Sea Sunday service, which also marked the 40th anniversary of his ordination.
