‘HOG HOLES’ are set to help the humble hedgehog get about at night at Cades Farm in Wellington.

Residents are being encouraged to cut CD-sized holes in fences to allow hedgehogs to move easily between gardens.

Knightstone Housing with support from the Sovereign Housing Association has given residents permission to cut holes in their fences if they want to.

Hedgehogs are active nocturnal creatures and walk over a mile at night but it is becoming harder for them to do so as access between gardens in particular is becoming ever more restricted.

The first ‘hog hole’ was cut by Knightstone’s internal maintenance service and maintenance officer Marc Drury-Rose fixed a sign next to the hole to identify what it is.

For more information about the project or to learn how to help hedgehogs in general, a leaflet is available from from the the WWN’s offices in High Street.
