Wellington has been in existence for more than 1,000 years – its first mention is in a document dating from around 900, almost two centuries before the Domesday Book.

A free public talk dubbed ‘A Very Quick History of Wellington’ will be given on Thursday, March 22, in Wellington Prep School Hall.

The 25-minute talk will be followed by time for anyone to ask a question relating to the town’s history, which the combined knowledge of the audience will attempt to answer.

The talk and question time will follow Wellington Local History & Museum Society’s annual meeting, which last year last about 20 minutes.

This event is an opportunity for new and long-term residents of Wellington to share their knowledge of the town and to find out what Wellington Local History & Museum Society is doing to make that knowledge available to a wider audience.

The event, which starts at 7.30pm, is free but donations in support of the society will be appreciated.
