A WELLINGTON woman’s Christmas Eve haircut has raised more than £1,000 for two charities.

Jennie Liddel had her 22-inch hair cut to grade three length - ‘practically bald’ - in a charity event in the town’s Vintage Inn.

She was supporting the Make A Wish Foundation and the Little Princess Trust.

Jennie, who lives in Priory and works in Odette’s Tearoom, has so far collected £1,158.78 and will continue accepting donations until January 1.

She said: “The evening was super. It could not have gone any better. I have loved every minute and have not been nervous at all, knowing that my hair and the donated money is going to two fantastic charities.”

Jennie’s hair was cut by Amy Alderman, of Hair by Alderman, watched by family and friends and pub regulars.

Amy said: “My job was made easier by people coming over to cut a plait as well, and I just neatened up at the end.”

Jennie’s hair will be given to The Little Princess Trust, which makes wigs for young people who have lost their hair due to cancer treatment or other conditions, and she will also cover the £550 it costs the charity to make a wig.

The rest of the money will be given to Make A Wish Foundation UK.
