A LOCAL man was among a number of people arrested on suspicion of drink or drug driving over Christmas and the New Year.
James Kelvin Toothill, 25, of Wellington, was one of a total of 155 who have been ’named and shamed’ by Avon and Somerset
Police which says it was disappointed there had been a 60 per cent rise in people charge with such offences.
This is despite the fact that the police made it known in the country before Christmas that drink and drug driving would not be tolerated at any time.
There were some cases from Taunton but many arrested were from the Bristol area.
Just over 100 cases were recorded over the Christmas and New Year period the previous year.
Police conducted a widespread publicity campaign for the festive period but not all drivers – by the number arrested – took any notice.
