THERE was a lucky escape for six elderly Wellington residents when lightning struck their Abbeyfield care home in Wellesley Park on Friday night (Aug 2).

Fortunately, none of the residents were hurt but the lightning destroyed the home's fire alarm panel and electrical wiring in the lobby.
