ST Peter’s, the little chapel on the Quay in Minehead, is in dire need of urgent repairs to the external walls and wooden staircase.

A spokespeson said: “Water is coming through the beams in the ceiling, especially the ones close to the altar, due to the lime rendering of the building being in a very poor state. This is causing extreme damp and potential long-term damage to the building. The stairs and the door to the upper room need urgent refurbishing to ensure that they are safe to use.”

The total costs of the repairs will be in the region of £17,000, they said.

The works are likely to commence in August, and the estimated time of works is eight weeks, dependent on the weather.

So far, the chapel has been given two most generous donations that total £6,000.

“We are so very grateful for this kindness which kick starts our fundraising campaign” a chapel spokesperson added.

“How can you help? You can donate to our St Peter’s appeal: By writing a cheque to Minehead PCC, St Andrews church annexe, Wellington Square, Minehead TA24 5NH.”
