The Sports Hall at Wellington bursting with Come & Sing children

Hundreds of children from across 19 local schools turned out to take part in Wellington School's 12th 'Come and Sing' event, where they performed Abba classics to a 1000 strong audience.

The Wellington School Sports Hall was packed with parents, grandparents, friends and relatives who came to see the show, which was supported by a professional band and led by two conductors.

Showrunner Ros Shaw said: "All the pupils had learned the songs in their schools with the help of their music teachers, and they came into school for workshops earlier in the term.  When they finally came together, the sound was electrifiying – such an exciting moment

“Each school had auditioned a boy and girl for the solos so there was a tense and nail-biting, blind 'The Voice' style sing-off for each role.  The winners performed the roles in the concert that evening. We were delighted to welcome Cora from Curry Mallet Primary School, and Henry from Plymtree CofE Primary School to sing solos to a packed audience – seriously brave!

“It was tremendously exciting to have such an array of fantastic singers from so many schools coming along – there is some serious talent around and we feel privileged to have been able to showcase some of it last week.  My thanks must go to all the primary music teachers who have worked so hard with their children to make this happen”

The schools taking part were; Bolham Primary School, Cotford St Luke Primary School, Crowcombe & Stogumber Primary Schools, Culmstock Primary School, Curry Mallett CofE Primary School, East Anstey & Bishops Nympton Primary Schools, Hambridge Community Primary School, Holy Trinity CE Primary School, Kentisbeare CofE Primary School, Lyngford Park Primary School, North Petherton Primary School, Plymtree CofE Primary School, Rockwell Green CofE Primary School, Sampford Arundel Primary School, St Michael’s CofE First School, Stockland Primary School, Tatworth Primary School, Upottery Primary School, Wellington Prep School and West Monkton CofE School.
