Drivers should expect residual delays while a lane remains closed and until recovery work is complete following the incident on the northbound carriageway between junction 27, for Tiverton, and junction 26, for Wellington.
Devon and Cornwall Police said: "Police were called to reports of a single vehicle road traffic collision involving a lorry on the northbound carriageway of the M5 between junctions 27 and 26, near Tiverton, at around 10.30am today, Friday 22 November.
"Recovery has been arranged and the scene has been handed to the highways team. The lorry driver has been reported to court for driving without due care."
