A WELLINGTON couple who were viciously attacked with a machete in the garden of their holiday home on the Caribbean island of Tobago say compensation they have been offered by Trinidad and Tobago's Criminal Injuries Compensation Board amounting to just £2,500 each is "beneath contempt".
Former Wellington hoteliers Peter, 66 and Murium Green, 61 of St John's Close, both underwent emergency surgery for serious wounds to the face and neck after the attack.
Peter, who spent three weeks in a chemically induced coma after the assault and is blind in one eye, said on Monday: "It won't even go close to paying our legal costs."
Detectives from Trinidad and Tobago are to visit the Greens at home this weekend in an attempt to resurrect the investigation.
