THE Wellington Carnival being staged tomorrow (Sat) promises to be bigger and better - thanks to the financial backing from local businesses.

The event was held for the first time last year since the pandemic and defied rumours it was removing itself from the carnival circuit.

The carnival committee and volunteers have worked tirelessy throughout this year to make it success.

Arrangements have also been made to pick up 100-year-old Madge Covey BEM who will join the procession in a Sunbeam purchased and driven by a Wellington woman 100 years ago which has been returned to the town by a local motoring enthusiast.

The century old made-in-the-UK Sunbeam was bought by Frances Gill of Beaconsfield, Mantle Street, on September 6, 1923.

Pearly Queen Madge will be out in the centre of Wellington during the day selling souvenir programmes before taking part in the event.
