The restoration of Wellington Monument was on the agenda at an event to celebrate the success of the National Trust last year and to look ahead to plans for this year.

Charles Wellesley 9th Duke of Wellington and chairman of the National Trust Tim Parker invited Mayor of Wellington Cllr Gary James to the event at Apsley House in London, home of the first Duke of Wellington and his descendants.

The Duke, Mr Parker and author and historian Professor Sir David Cannadine gave speeches on the trust’s history and achievements.

The mayor met trustees and benefactors of the trust, and highlighted the significance of the monument restoration project and what the landmark means to the people of Wellington.
