A ROW involving Wellington's Mayor and Deputy Mayor has been settled behind closed doors.
Deputy Mayor Cllr Janet Reed faced censure at the October meeting of Wellington Town Council thius coming Monday after it was alleged she used her role in order to make a political point in an item in a Taunton Conservative publication, the Taunton Mail.
In a strongly-worded email to Cllr Reed and copied to the WWN last week, Wellington Town Mayor Cllr Peter Critchard told her that he was to request the matter be put before the Town Council.
He warned: "I should point out that members could feel that it is approriate for you to continue in the post of Deputy Town Mayor, or they may feel you have bought the position into disrepute and therefore request that you stand down."
But the WWN has learned that the matter will now not go before councillors at Monday's meeting.
Cllr Critchard told the WWN: "The matter has been dealt with in private."
He added: "I want to make clear that the amail copied to the WWN did not come from me."
