Sheppy’s House of Cider at Bradford-on-Tone will be staging the ancient cider-making ritual of wassail later this month.

The event sees the ‘evil spirits’ in the orchard chased away and the benevolent ones awoken, with the aim of ensuring a plentiful harvest.

The ingredients for a good wassail are noise, fire, guns, hot cider and plenty of people to sing and shout the ancient wassail songs.

Food and drink will be available, with music from local folk band Fresh Aire and traditional Morris dancing from the Taunton Deane Morris Men to round off the night.

More than 300 people attended last year’s wassail and it is hoped this year’s event on Thursday, January 17, will also attract a good crowd.

Tickets are on sale on Eventbrite or at the House of Cider shop, with sales supporting St Margaret’s Somerset Hospice. Ticket prices start from £6 – tickets will not be available on the night.
