Wellington Carnival Committee has presented cheques totalling £560 to organisations and individuals who collected during last September’s procession.
At a reception in the Scout Hall on Sunday, chairman Paul Goodyer thanked them all for their efforts, along with everyone who made the parade’s return aftera a three-year absence such a success.
Those accepting cheques were Wellington RFC Minis and Juniors, Wellington Majorettes, Somerset Red Arrow Majorettes and Sophie Webber (collecting for Young Lives vs Cancer). Unable to attend were Wellington Pantomime Group, Beech Grove Primary School and Vogue Twirlers. Meanwhile, the carnival committee held its latest fund-raising event on Friday night with a successful Easter Bingo at the rugby club.
About 150 people attended and nearly £1,500 was raised to boost the carnival coffers.
The committee would like to thank Lidl for donating Easter eggs as bingo prizes and there were also 50 raffle prizes generously donated by Cards & Co, Odettes Tearoom, The Vintage, Nook & Cranny, Bloomin’ Lovely and a surprise quantity of eggs from Budgens.
Wellington Carnival Committee still need more helpers and are also seeking sponsorship from businesses (packages start at £40).
