LOCAL MP Gideon Amos showed his support for World Sepsis Day, which is on Saturday (September 13), by attending a Parliamentary event.

Mr Amos backed calls by an all-Party group of MPs and the UK Sepsis Trust for the need for greater awareness of the condition.

He was among more than 70 MPs and Peers, including ‘Bionic Peer’ Lord Mackinlay, who was left a quadruple amputee after his own battle with sepsis in 2023.

Former football manager Harry Redknapp also attended as an ambassador for the trust.

Sepsis is triggered by the immune system’s over-reaction to an infection and is life-threatening.

Mr Amos said: “Sepsis is more common than heart attack and claims more lives than stroke.

“It needs to be taken just as seriously as cancer.”
