A MALE acting suspiciously near a play area at Tonedale, Wellington, has been given ‘words of advice by police’.

Mother Heidi Jenkinson called the police at lunchtime on Sunday after a man crept up behind her daughter while she was playing on a swing.

She says on Facebook: “He made her jump as he stood right behind her and said a few things. Luckily I was walking my dog around the same field and she was able to run over to me. He then proceeded to follow us in every direction until I confronted him and I phoned the police.”

A police spokesman said: “We were called to the play area at noon on Sunday after a male was reported to be acting suspiciously. The male, who was heavily intoxicated, was given words of advice and he left the area.”
