THE COST of a new railway station for Wellington will run into millions, it has been disclosed.
Now, campaigners for the station have been tasked with identifiying sources of funding for the project following a meeting with Network Rail officials on Monday.
The meeting, attended by Wellington town councillors and orchestrated by aspiring Wellington Conservative MP Mark Formosa, heard that a new station in South Wales similar to the one proposed for Wellington, cost £4 million.
Network Rail representatives Chris Aldridge and Dylan Bowen also pointed out that additional Sprinter trains may have to be purchased at a cost of around £1 million per carriage.
The group visited the site of the proposed station, now used to house butane gas tanks for Swallowfield, before moving the Wellington community centre for further discussions.
