MP's column: Gideon Amos, Liberal Democrat MP for Taunton and WellingtonTown clerk Greg Dyke reported at Monday’s town council meeting: “The Christmas lights have been the same since 2009 and are beginning to need repair and replacement.
“Although the lights were considered to be satisfactory it was felt that, subject to available funding, some appropriate additional lights, particularly for the tree, might be appropriate.
“I have therefore looked at the possibility of the purchase or hire of decorations for Wellington. “Different lights can be purchased individually or altogether so there would be some flexibility in the total price.
“The hire price, however, would include storage, maintenance, delivery and collection over a three year hire contract.”
The council agreed to go for a three-year hire option. This will mean there would be a new display of lights after three years. The council will save on storage, maintenance and repair costs.
