EBENEZER Scrooge and four ghosts come to Clayhidon next week when actor David Mynne performs a one-man version of Charles Dickens’ novel ‘A Christmas Carol’ at the parish hall.

It should be a wondrous evening’s entertainment if the opinion of Emma Rice, one of Britain’s foremost theatre directors, is anything to go by. “Dave Mynne is to Cornwall what Leonardo da Vinci was to Florence... he can do everything,” she said. “Actor, designer, comedian, artist and first-class idiot – anything Dave touches promises to turn to glorious fool’s gold! Don’t miss him under any circumstances!”

Fans of the legendary Kneehigh Theatre may remember him as one of its founder members.

Scrooge, a mean, tight-fisted, squeezing, grasping, clutching old miser is visited by a series of ghosts, starting with his old business partner, Jacob Marley. The three spirits which follow, each one more terrifying than the last, the Ghosts of Christmas Past, Christmas Present and Christmas Yet to Come, show Scrooge how his mean behaviour has affected those around him.

Join him on a grim journey through the dark, dismal streets of Victorian London, where Ignorance and Want cower together. Sob at the bedside of a tiny, malnourished child riven with rickets.

Is there still time for him to change and become a generous and kind-hearted human being?

‘A Christmas Carol’ is at Clayhidon Parish Hall on Thursday, December 7. To book, call Caroline Bendle on 01823 681047 or email [email protected]. Tickets are priced £8 with supper £5.
