RESIDENTS at a Wellington care home enjoyed some respite from the heatwave with a sunny family fun day at the end of June.

Friends and families came along to join in the fun at Camelot House and Lodge dementia nursing home with the cooler weather allowing the care home residents to sit out and enjoy live music, games, dancing and a barbecue.

Manager Zillah Oakes said: “We had some wonderful singing from The Jems, Kiera Chard and Ryju Putheneettill, our very own clinical lead, who sang a variety of English and Indian favourites, and the Northfield Ukulele Strummers were there too - always a musical treat.

“We also a beautiful Indian dance performance by 10-year-old Helena Anil, daughter of our team leader, Jinol. Thanks to our enthusiastic staff and family members there was a really interesting variety of stalls as well.”

The event was not intended to be a dedicated fundraising event but the team ended up with a profit of £500 to contribute to the residents’ fund.

“We also had ‘How many sweets in the jar’ and a stall with a selection of wrapped ‘lucky dip’ bottles - some containing wine and some containing water.

“And finally, there was a wonderful ‘Taste of India’ stall where colleagues treated our residents and guests to some delicious Indian food and also delighted people by painting henna designs on their hands.
