THERE will be yet more delays in the provision of bus shelters on the Taunton Road near the new Cades Farm housing estate.

Wellington town councillors were told at their February meeting that the hold-up was due to the need for planning permission for the shelters from Taunton Deane Borough Council and for a licence from the county council as highway authority.

When the developers of the estate were granted permission they had to pay £10,000 to the Deane as their contribution towards the cost of two new shelters. Quotations have now been received and have come in at under the estimated cost.

Cllr John Thorne, who raised the issue of the shelters in June of last year, said he thought it should have been ‘all systems go by now’ with planning permission and the licence already applied for.  It was known it had to be done.

He was supported by Cllr Marcus Barr who said it seemed like a right hand/left hand job of ‘not knowing what the other is doing’.
