PUBLIC notices cover a range of applications, ranging from licensing applications for liqueur or entertainment to planning applications, roadworks and other works.

Their intention is to inform communities of the latest plans in their area and such applications are considered for approval or refusal by local authorities.

Here are some of the latest applications submitted to Somerset Council in Minehead:

Listed building consent is being sought for the erection of replacement fencing and a shed at a property in Selworthy, Minehead.

Owner of Willow Coach House, Mr Simon Childs is undertaking the work to replace the existing dilapidated fencing on the North-East boundary of the property that borders the curtilage of the neighbouring Grade II listed The Tithe Barn which forms part of the barn’s South West boundary.

The barn dates back to the 15th and 16th Century, the submitted heritage document states, and was used to store the tithe (one tenth of farm produce) to the church. The listed property is currently for sale by a property services company in Minehead.

The work seeks to unify and renovate the 5.10m boundary length with a more “aesthetically pleasing and appropriate run of natural timber ‘closed-board’ fencing of 2.0 m height,” to coordinate with the ‘closed-board’ fencing of The Tithe Barn.

A new proposed shed for the site will be sited ‘more appropriately and totally within the North-East courtyard of Willow Coach House’ and ‘in the main’ will now be hidden from view of the barn. The exterior of the shed will be painted in black rather than the existing shed which is bright blue.

The owner states in conclusion: “We believe the proposed replacement fencing and shed will appropriately enhance and improve the aesthetics and setting of the ‘The Tithe Barn’, Willow Coach House and the immediate area."

The owner of Tithe Barn, Carolyn Gifford, has entered a public comment with her support of the application stating: “I have no objection to the replacement fence. The proposed design seems less fussy and more in keeping with its surroundings, and will therefore be an improvement. Removing the shed that previously formed part of the fence will also be more sensible. The new ‘shed’ seems quite large but we are assured it will not be visible from the garden at The Tithe Barn.”
