PUBLIC notices cover a range of applications, ranging from licensing applications for liqueur or entertainment to planning applications, roadworks and other works.
Their intention is to inform communities of the latest plans in their area and such applications are considered for approval or refusal by local authorities.
Here is one of the latest road closures submitted to Somerset Council:
National Grid Electricity Distribution (NGED) are replacing hundreds of yards of overhead lines and steel poles with underground cable within Wellington, delivering long‑term safety and reliability benefits to the town after nine major power cuts were recorded in just eight months.
Several miles of new underground cable is being installed to allow load to be better balanced across the network and enable the installation of additional monitoring equipment to help isolate any future faults more quickly.
Cabling works began in Holyoake Street and Seymour Street but have now been extended to Station Road and Waterloo Road with some carriageway incursion on a major route to Milverton and Wiveliscombe which will impact commuters, bus services, and local business traffic.
The works are planned to continue until June 12, and Wellington town councillor Andrew Govier has been liaising with National Grid regarding the closure.
In a statement, he said: “National Grid have clarified that buses and lorries will be able to use the road throughout the works which are due to last from now until June 12. A person will be on site to escort traffic through, starting with the first bus of the day.
“Secondly, the whole stretch of road won't be closed for the full 40 days.
“The plan is to close it in two parts, Owen Street to the Corams Lane junction first, allowing access to the sports centre and Springfield Road.
“Once this is complete, the works will move to the other side of the junction and works will take place between Corams and Seymour Street, with vehicles going to the sports centre through the 'side roads’.”
He added that the works will cause issues, but that the work is essential and is part of a project to replace the metal poles that currently carry the electricity cables.
The project is set to continue afterward along North Street, Brendon Road, and Longforth Road.

The company undertaking the works, Mike Ford Groundwork, will continue to liaise with Wellington Town Council and Somerset Council to give regular updates and details of future works.
