A NEW takeaway chain may be added to Wellington’s Westpark site, after plans were submitted to erect a Domino’s Pizza “pod”.

The new pizza takeaway site would occupy seven “under-utilised” parking bays close to an existing McDonald’s ‘drive thru’ unit.

In August 2024, permission was granted to build a ‘Food to go’ pod in the mixed-use business park with Greggs as the intended occupier. Since the British bakery chain no longer intends to operate from the site, Domino’s now hopes to fill the gap.

The proposed pod is a single-storey container-type unit with a customer waiting area for collections, a kitchen, storage and welfare facilities, with plans to provide both on-site pick-up and takeaway services from 11am until 11pm seven days a week.

The site of the proposed pizza pod is part of a wider EV charging hub which is made up of eight EV charging points, air/vacuum facilities and three jet wash bays.

Surrounding the EV hub are 12 parking bays – which do not have chagrining facilities - seven of which are proposed to become the new takeaway site.

The five remaining spaces will be available for staff and site customer use.

A spokesperson for Pegasus Planning, who represent the applicant, said: “The proposed pod is to be located within an EV charging hub where users will wait to charge their vehicles.

“The proposed takeaway will occupy an underutilised space within the hub site and will provide a service to those users, complementing the existing use of the wider site.

“Furthermore, the site is within an extensive mixed-use business park, with excellent links to local employment uses and local residential areas whereby it will provide a service to the local area.”

Somerset Council hope to make a decision on the application by August of this year.
