DONATIONS have been slowly coming in for a pump track planned for Wellington Recreation Ground.

An online fund-raising page has been set up in partnership with the town council and Wellington Sports Federation.

The fund-raiser has already reached more than £620 of its £1,400 target for the pump track, which is designed for riders of all ages to enjoy cycling, scooting, and skating in a safe, inclusive, and inspiring environment.

The council has given the thumbs-up to the installation of the track, which will be used by cycling and skateboarding enthusiasts and also accessible wheelchairs.

A pump track is designed in such a way that no pedalling is required and just a pumping motion needed to keep up momentum.

The town council has secured a portion of the funding needed toward the total cost of £175,000 through section 106 funds from housing developers and is actively seeking grants.

A council spokesperson said: “If you believe in giving young people more opportunities, improving local facilities, and investing in the future of our town, we invite you to contribute to the Wellington Pump Track Project.

"Together, we can transform the recreation ground into an even more dynamic and welcoming place for everybody.”

An agreement to take the project forward was reached by the council in December, with a formal request to Somerset Council to allocate section 106 funds of nearly £48,710 to the project.

Businesses and locals are also being asked to support their local community and help fund the track, which is being designed and installed by Clark and Kent, the UK’s premier builders of pump and BMX tracks, which built the BMX Supercross Track for the 2012 London Olympic Games.

Contributions can be made via the GoFundMe page or by contacting the council by emailing [email protected].
