AN appeal for witnesses has been made by police in Wellington after a man was stabbed in the early hours of Monday (May 29).

Officers were called to Roly Poly Green, off Longforth Road, Victoria Street, and Alexandra Road at about 2.15 am when the assault took place.

A picnic bench at the centre of police investigations into a stabbing on Roly Poly Green, in Wellington.

The stabbing victim, aged in his 30s, was taken to hospital by ambulance.

Police said his injuries were not thought to be life-threatening or life changing.

A police spokeswoman said: "We are treating this as an isolated incident and inquiries are ongoing.

"If you were in the area around the time of the incident and saw anything, or have any relevant CCTV, doorbell or dashcam footage which could aid the investigation, please call 101 and quote reference 5223125056."
