A POLICE search for a missing person in the Wellington area came to a tragic end when they found a person dead on Thursday (September 28).

Formal identification of the person who died has still to take place but police have reported the discovery to the family of the missing person.

Concern that the person had gone missing was reported to police on Wednesday evening, and during Thursday's search operation officers were supported by a helicopter from the National Police Air Service which could be seen hovering over a number of areas of the town.

An Avon and Somerset Constabulary spokesperson said: “Sadly, during the search, we have found a body.

“While formal identification has not yet been carried out, officers have updated the family of the missing person.

“Our thoughts are with them during this time, and we ask that they be given privacy in their grief.”
