TWITCHER Phillip Sydenham, of Brooks Place, Wellington, says he spotted a rare male red-footed falcon in the town centre heading out to Tone Dale last Wednesday afternoon.

He says the birds breed in Europe and only about 15-20 single examples come to the UK each year. He said he had previously seen two birds in Dorset and one on the Somerset Levels.

The red-footed falcon (pictured) feeds mainly on dragonflies but also small birds.
