PARENTS of children at Nynehead Primary School have been thrown a life line with the news that a decision to close it is to be reviewed.

Kathy Boyd, chairman of the Friends of Nynehead School, whose daughter, Elizabeth, seven, attends the school, told the WWN: "Parents of Nynehead School have been given new hope."

She said parents were officially told when they met newly elected Conservative councillor Tony McMahon that the decision to close their school would be reviewed.

Cllr McMahon, who was elected in Upper Tone division with a 50-vote lead over Independent candidate Steve Ross in the recent council election, said: "I have persuaded the new council leader, Cllr Ken Maddock, and the new deputy leader and cabinet member for children and young people, Cllr John Osman, to agree to carrying out a review.

"I want to make sure we are not colosing a good school unnecessarily."

But he warned: "The decision is not going to be an easy one.

"Above all, we will need to act in the best interests of the children involved at both schools."
