YOUNG Leader at 1st Wellington Scout Group Andrew Hyman, who is going on an expedition to Uzbekistan in 2017, is holding a fundraising summer fair this weekend.
Andrew, 15, who lives in Hemyock, needs to raise £2,500, plus extra for equipment, to go on the trip and the fair at the Scout Group Hall on Saturday, July 16, will help towards the total.
Andrew is one of 25 Scouts from the South-West going to Uzbekistan where they will hike across very rough and challenging terrain, visit historical and cultural landmarks and learn about local customs.
They will meet up with a local youth group who will join them on their trek, assisting them as interpreters to help buy food etc.
Andrew will attend about ten training weekend camps with the rest of the Scouts to learn about Uzbekistan customs, the type of food they will be able to buy, as food is very limited there, and how to cook it, and how to look after themselves and their fellow Scouts during the trip.
The fair will run from 9am-noon and will include lots of stalls, raffle with lots of prizes, including £100 first prize, plants, tombolas, bric-a-brac, bouncy castle, stocks, secondhand toys and books, hook-a-duck, craft stall, refreshments and lots more.
