WELLINGTON Choral Society is holding two choral singing workshops in June.
It would like to hear from anyone who enjoys singing whether they have not tried singing in a choir and would like to have a go or are an old hand.
A spokesperson said: “If you like to sing – even if only in the shower – have not sung since school and wonder if you still can, simply want to try something new or are a seasoned choral singer, this might be for you. No audition is required and it is not necessary to be able to read music.”
The workshops will explore a French theme with Duruflé’s Requiem as one of the pieces. The Requiem will form part of the choral society’s November 24 concert Remembrance – 100 Years.
This will also include a selection of other choral, organ and spoken works around the theme of Remembrance encompassing the last 100 years and all branches of the Armed Services.
The society’s chairman, Mike Maddock, said: “We wanted to reflect not only on the end of the First World War but also on the sacrifice of all the Armed Services since that time, through the music and prose We Will Remember Them. It promises to be a very memorable evening.”
The workshops are to be held in the evening on Wednesdays, June 6 and 13 – £5 per session – from 7.30pm (doors open 6.30pm) to 9.30pm at Wellington Methodist Church, Waterloo Road, Wellington TA21 8JQ.
The society would encourage potential singers to give it a go and book a place to get a feel for the choir and the music. Further details about the society and a workshop booking form can be found on its website, www.wellingtonchoralsociety.org.uk, or contact secretary Sue Ryan on 01823 619443.
If they enjoy the experience, singers are very welcome to join the choral society and sing at the next concert.
