A CONTROVERSIAL scheme to erect a giant solar farm at Bradford on Tone has been thrown out by The Deane's planning committee.

National Grid looking into why eight power cuts in seven months hit Wellington areaThe committee had been recommended by planning officials to give permission for the project, which would have seen the installation of 39,000 solar panels, said to be capable of providing 9.5MW of power for more than 2,000 homes on a 50 acre site to the north west of Ritherdens Farm, Bradford.
Members were told that 31 letters of objections had been received from local residents on the grounds of adverse visual impact over a wide area, totally inadequate roads for the delivery of equipment, disturbance to wildlife, the loss of quality agricultural land and flooding problems.
