A HEATWAVE is expected to develop over the coming weekend, prompting a yellow heat-health alert as forecasters predict temperatures could climb as high as 30°C across parts of southern England.
The alert, issued by the UK Health Security Agency and the Met Office, remains active until 6pm on Sunday, June 22, and covers much of southern England, including the South West.
The warm conditions are likely to meet the official threshold for a heatwave, three or more consecutive days of high temperatures, and may pose health risks to vulnerable individuals, including the elderly and those with underlying health conditions.
Residents are advised to stay hydrated, avoid direct sun between 11am and 3pm, and check in on neighbours who may need support. Pet owners are reminded to avoid walking dogs during the hottest part of the day and to check pavements before heading out.
Emergency services have also warned of an increased wildfire risk due to dry conditions and are urging the public not to light barbecues in open areas and to follow local fire safety advice.
Temperatures are expected to ease slightly from Sunday but are likely to remain warm into early next week.
