A local charity which supports people with sight impairment has made a fresh appeal for volunteers.
Award-winning charity, Somerset Sight has served the community for over a century, and won national recognition in 2019 when they were awarded the Queens Award for Voluntary Service.
The charity provides a 'volunteer visiting service' which sees volunteers matched with a person with impaired sight to make regular visits, provide company and held combat loneliness and isolation. Volunteers assist with reading, corresponding and making appointments.
However, there is now a waiting list for people with a sight impairment who would like to have a volunteer visitor, but can't because there aren't enough of them.
The charity, which relies on volunteers and donations has now launched a fresh appeal for new volunteer visitors. More volunteers could mean many visually impaired people receiving the help and support they need.
Somerset Sight also holds monthly social groups for the visually impaired across the county, where service users can have a chat and grab a coffee - as well as receive held and guidance about sight loss.
Additionally the charity provides a mobile service, which sees a specially equipped van travel Somerset, offering information, advice and visual aids.
