SIXTH-FORMERS at Wellington School have again emerged victorious in a debating competition held in French.

They argued against video surveillance and in favour of liberty and privacy in the debate at Taunton School, the Wellington team impressing the judges with the strength of their arguments and the quality and accuracy of their language.

The team won the debate against a native speaker team from Taunton scoring 14 points out of 15, with Taunton and King’s second and third on 12 and 11 points.

The event was the first of a series of modern language debates for independent schools in the area –the team won a debate at Monmouth School in the summer.

The team was made up of Will Hammerton, Tom Blelloch and Elias Buckley-Wilson. Three other members – Simon Moody, Rowan Jobin and Kirsty Sadler – put questions to the other teams.
