THIS year’s Uffculme Music and Real Ale Festival at Magelake next month features a line-up of ten acts who will serve up a wonderful variety of music.
An intriguing collection of real ales and ciders from many of Devon’s and the West Country’s lesser-known producers is also on offer. The event is Uffculme’s main fundraiser for the Christmas lights.
Eventine, who are headlining on Friday, July 5, are highly acclaimed and well known for the diversity of their set lists and never fail to entertain. The ever popular five-piece covers band play a euphoric set of classic rock, pop, disco, funk, dance and even electronic club covers.
Headlining on Saturday, July 6, are six-piece Reckless, one of Exeter’s top party bands. They formed in 2007 and play rock, pop and soul from the 1960s to the present day – and are renowned for powerful vocals and excellent musicianship.
The Mooncats are a Devon-based duo featuring acoustic and electric slide guitar and percussion. The retro rocking roots/blues/country pairing play everything from Muddy Waters through Bob Dylan to Mose Allison, The Beatles and beyond, with a few self-penned numbers as well.
Marnie are a West Country band who perform an infusion of acoustic rock, soul, funk and blues – originals and covers. They bring another dimension to their raw, pure, heartfelt music with spine-tingling vocals, driving guitars, mandolin, foot stomper and an adept use of ‘live’ loops.
Bar None are a five-piece band from the Blackdown Hills. They cover dance-driven rock, pop and indie numbers from the 1960s to present day hits, with a few mellow songs thrown in for good measure.
Saturday afternoon will see quality performers, all organised by Uffculme’s Culm Valley Music and Performance Club. Marram Grass are a Devon-based contemporary folk band who play original songs and covers in the Marram Grass style, and feature the guitar work of Martin Baxter and Adam Montague.
Singer-songwriter Eleanor Jacobs has been bringing the exciting sounds of Nashville home to the UK. Her unique sound unites the classic country genre with the world of English pop/folk music, best described by Eleanor as ‘New English Country’.
As power-folk duo Abel & Eade, singer-songwriters Rosie Eade and American Randy Abel bring together old songs, new songs, and stories that cross the oceans and back again, combining their love of trans-atlantic Americana, folk and blues.
Tricky Situation are a new four-piece smooth blues and soul band from Exeter, with 130 years of combined gigging experience. Verity Greenaway features on vocals with Phil Bowler on guitar.
Nine Pound Catfish are a Devon-based trio who play a mixture of hokum, ragtime blues and old country music, mainly from the 1920s and 1930s.
The festival is at Magelake in Uffculme (EX15 3DP). Admission is £6 each day or £10 for a two-day pass.
