Two teams from Wellington School enjoyed success in the gruelling Ten Tors event on Dartmoor at the weekend.

The students in the 45-mile challenge finished first out of more than 100 teams after a hard, strenuous walk and an overnight camp. Sixth-formers Oliver Beckley, Alexander Smith, Alfie Hollingsworth, Beatrice Renyard, Alistair Bett and Ellen Cowling crossed the line at 9.24am on Sunday. Watching supporters roared the team over the finish line.

The 35-mile team of Imogen Evans, Matthew Madge, Joe Woodward, Henry Pocock, Dylan Leonard and Angus Kekwick also put in a strong performance coming first in their group and completing the course at 8.54am.

The event, run by the Army, assisted by the Royal Navy and Royal Air Force, is in its 59th year.

More than 2,400 teenagers in 400 teams, aged between 14 and 19, hiked up to 55 miles (89 km) and visited ten nominated tors.

The first Ten Tors expedition took place in September 1960 and over the years interest in the challenge has grown.

Camping overnight, the teams complete the challenge without adult guidance.
