WELLINGTON Street Pastors are celebrating ten years of serving the people of the town this month.
A celebration service was held at Methodist Church on Sunday evening, September 15, when people from every church were present together with special guests from the police and local councils and Somerset Churches Together (pictured with our new recruits).
It was a very special occasion as we also commissioned two new Street Pastors to join the small dedicated team who patrol on Friday evenings to help keep our people and our streets safe and peaceful.
Chief Inspector Lisa Simpson, of Avon & Somerset Police, brought an encouraging message, which included speaking of kind the love we need to display, as described in the Bible verses in 1 Corinthians chapter 13.
Cllr Hazel Prior-Sankey (SWT chairman), Cllr Andrew Govier (town council) and Sharon Baker (Avon & Somerset Police local team) also spoke in support of the work of Street Pastors.
Adrian Prior-Sankey, who represents Ascension Trust – the body that oversees Street Pastors – commissioned our two new Street Pastors, then brought an inspiring message from the Bible, continuing the theme of serving others in love.
It was an inspiring evening of testimony, worship, encouragement for us all to continue to love and serve our town in any way we are able. There was time after the service to share together over refreshments, and a special cake was made and decorated for the occasion.
