THE lounge at the Priory Court retirement apartments in Wellington was decorated with flags, bunting and royal memorabilia when residents gathered to celebrate the Queen’s 90th birthday.

Social committee chairman Eric Pearson welcomed everyone and spoke about the Queen’s long reign and her continuing round of public duties, despite her age.

Residents are of her generation and can remember her Coronation as the first public television broadcast.

Resident Raymond Budd proposed the Loyal Toast and residents raised their glasses in tribute to Her Majesty.

This was followed by savoury and sweet contributions made by lady members of the committee.

In March, residents had sent loyal greetings to Buckingham Palace for Her Majesty’s birthday and received a letter in reply from Buckingham Palace with best wishes for an enjoyable celebration on April 21.
