AS temperatures start dropping Thrive is inviting residents across Somerset to attend a series of free winter roadshows offering practical advice, energy-saving tips, and access to local support services.

The ‘Get Ready for Winter’ campaign aims to ensure individuals and families are equipped with the knowledge and resources they need to stay warm, healthy, and supported during the colder months.

The events are open to all and will take place in Minehead, Taunton, Axbridge, and Yeovil throughout October.

Each roadshow will feature a wide range of organisations offering expert guidance on everything from managing energy bills to accessing health and housing support.

People will also receive free hot drinks and gift bags.

The events are in:

  • Minehead Baptist Church, Wednesday, October 15, 10 am to 12.30 pm
  • Taunton Library, Wednesday, October 22, 10 am to 12 noon
  • Axbridge Town Hall, Wednesday, October 25, 2 pm to 4 pm
  • Yeovil St Peter’s Hall, Thursday, October 30, 10 am to 1 pm

Visitors can speak directly with representatives from a wide range of local services, including Wessex Water, Magna Housing West Somerset, Citizens Advice, Somerset Lifeline, Somerset Independence Plus, Somerset Activity and Sports Partnership, Age UK, Somerset Independent Living Centres, Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue, food cupboards, Open Mental Health, Centre for Sustainable Energy, health coaches, and housing services.

The events are designed to provide practical, accessible support for anybody concerned about staying warm or managing costs this winter.

Val Bishop, chief executive of Thrive, formerly known as the Community Council for Somerset, said: “Winter can be a challenging time for many, particularly with rising energy costs and health concerns.

“These roadshows are about bringing people together, sharing practical advice, and ensuring nobody feels alone or unsupported.

“We want everybody to know help is available and accessible in their local community.”
