DOZENS of people proved they have a head for heights when they abseiled down the tower of St Giles Church in Bradford-on-Tone and raised thousands of pounds for the church’s roof fund.
The sun shone when 59 people – and two bears – abseiled on Saturday raising £4,387 with more to come from sponsorship. And the church’s ‘flower ladies’ put on a wonderful display in the church decorating the windows to the theme of the hymn ‘All Things
Bright and Beautiful’. Churchwarden June Best said:
“Our grateful thanks go to Dave Rylatt and his team of Matt, Sam and Kev for making the abseil possible. We are very grateful to the White Horse for its support – many regulars abseiled or sponsored and it supplied lunch for Dave and his team.
“Thanks also to David and Louisa Sheppy for supporting the abseil with a team from Sheppy’s, which included them. Thanks to everyone who helped with the refreshments and raffle, and everyone who contributed through sponsorship or donation.”
The target for the roof restoration fun in £95,000 and before the abseil £60,000 had been raised.
