THE new mayor of Wellington is Bob Bowrah who was unanimously elected at Wellington Town Council’s annual meeting on Monday.

Bob, a keen angler, was the council’s chairman in 2004-5 which was before the council changed to having a mayor and was also mayor of Taunton Deane in 2009-10. He still represents the town on the Deane council.

Bob, who had been the deputy mayor for the past 12 months, praised outgoing mayor Janet Lloyd for the outstanding way she had represented the council and the town and presented her with the past mayor’s badge of office.

The new deputy mayor is Gary James, who defeated Bill Sparrow in the election for the position.
