Wellington Museum and Local History Society has been awarded a grant for £750 by the town council.

Members of Wellington Town Council agreed at their meeting earlier this month to award the grant instead of providing the museum with a rent subsidy.

The museum pays an annual rent of £1,000 for the use of its premises in Fore Street but the council has previously subsidised that by charging the group just £250.

The council has been told by its auditors that the subsidy was indirect grant and suggested that it charged the full amount but support the museum to the same level it currently did.

So the council has instead agreed to award a £750 grant to the museum instead.
