Wellington’s Brickwork is the subject of a talk by Peter Harrison at Wellington Prep School Hall, just by the first mini-roundabout in South Street, next week.
It is thought that 100 years ago the UK had about 30,000 brickworks.
Among them was the best known major local company William Thomas & Co with its works at Poole, now the recycling centre, which was founded in the early 19th Century.
Although a lot of very old brickwork has disappeared due to redevelopment a substantial amount covering a wide variety of periods and styles can still be found locally.
The talk is on Thursday (July 26) at 7.30pm and is in aid of Wellington Local History & Museum Society. Entry is £3 or £2 for members of the society.
