WELLINGTON Town Council’s new Pop-Up shop has proved a great success for the Royal British Legion’s Poppy Appeal fundraising campaign.
Linda Trickey, Wellington’s Poppy Appeal organiser, said donations this year had been at least twice the usual amount collected with a total of £3,379.10 raised at the shop.
Linda, who is looking forward to having the shop again next year as it has been such a success, said: “Having a shop has made such a difference to our fundraising efforts.”
Other fundraising around the town has contributed to a total of £13,165.00 so far with more to collect.

Warning issued for whole of Christmas Day as strong winds set to hit WestcountryThe Poppy Appeal team decorated the shop’s interior and windows with fundraising merchandise including poppies, wreaths, badges and brooches. Visitors to the shop have also given photos and other memorabilia.
Linda and her volunteers have received positive feedback with a steady stream of people coming in. The charity opened in the Pop-Up Shop on October 23 and closed on Friday (November 15).
Linda thanks everyone who supported the Poppy Appeal and paid particular tribute to the volunteers who not only worked in the shop but manned stalls in the Co-op and Asda supermarkets every day.
The town council was delighted to welcome the Poppy Appeal to the Pop-Up shop in Fore Street. Wellington Mayor Janet Lloyd said: “Councillors and town representatives have worked hard to get the town’s first Pop-Up shop open, and it’s wonderful to see it being put to such good use so quickly. This is just one of the many ways the town council seeks to support local people and in this case, particularly, the town centre’.
