MEMBERS of Transition Town Wellington (TTW) gathered to celebrate their success in The Climate Coalition’s Green Heart Hero Awards at the Blue Pantry in Fore Street in the town on Friday.

The group currently has a display in the shop window including wellington boots stuffed with ivy made by Anita Roy, Andrea Rickard and Val Mister.

The display also includes the group’s foraging map, produce highlighting its cooking events and a scythe – Andrea has achieved great success in scything competitions.

TTW won in the Community Inspiration Category in the awards. It has created four community orchards and has herb beds and fruit bushes dotted around the town.

It has also run community apple juicing days, organic gardening talks and recently started a Repair Cafe where members of the public can take items to be fixed and learn skills to mend things themselves at home.

The Green Heart Hero Awards are co-ordinated by The Climate Coalition, a group of more than 130 organisations together representing more than 15 million people nationwide.
